hey soundcloud smarties! i was recently dubbed 'soundclouder of the day' by you guys which was a fantastic surprise! so thank you! but i was just curious as to how that all works. do you find music by word of mouth? are there certain people whose only job is to listen to music and share what they like? or is it like hitting 'random article' on wikipedia...? just wondering. that's all! (oh, and also! your website is a true gem. i don't know what i'd do without it!) k bye! andrea
Hey you! ‘SoundCloud smarties’? We love that, thank you for the nice words about SoundCloud :)
Here’s some info about how a SoundClouder Of The Day becomes a SoundClouder Of The Day.
Sebastian is from Stockholm, was at the very first SoundCloud opening party, loves the sound of a great laugh & he is one of the newest SoundCloud team members to join us in Berlin! Listen to one of his favorite sounds by Chad Valley, check him out on the blog & say “Hej”!
SoundClouder of the Day | Roman Mars | 99% Invisible -43- Invisible Music of Imperfect Escalators

“I have been using that site almost since its inception, it’s an unparalleled resource for sharing sounds and connecting with people. Soundcloud has developed into quite a sophisticated creative community. It has almost instantaneous listener feedback, which can be alternatingly encouraging and distracting.”—Long-time (longest-time?) SoundClouder m50speaking to 5chicago
A couple of weeks ago we announced that UK four piece Clock Opera were on a mission to construct a track which depended entirely on fans’ involvement, creating a brand new song comprised entirely from submitted sound clips.

I recently became a part of SounCloud’s new community program, called SoundCloud Heroes, as their local NYC Hero. As many of you know I’m a huge fan of SounCloud, so, when I had the opportunity to work even closer with the product and community, I had to jump on it right away. But, what is this heroes initiative anyways?
Similar to ambassador programs for other startups, but with a much better name, the Heroes Program is a way to connect, inspire and foster creativity with others - both current and potential SoundClouders - through collaborations, meetups and workshops in the local NYC community. With so many creative people in this town, from musicians to storytellers to podcasters to comedians and even public radio folk, it’s going to be powerful bringing these groups together. While I’ve got some cool ideas to make this happen, it’s nowhere near the possibilities that the community can dream up.
To get started, I’m heading out to San Francisco April 6-8 to meet the SoundCloud team, learn their goals/objectives for the program and hang with the other Heroes from Austin, SF, Chicago and Syracuse. In the meantime, I’ll be recording a few sounds in the East Village to test out some early ideas and, hopefully, connect with a few NYC SoundClouders before my trip.
Hit me up with thoughts and feedback to make this baby hum!
SoundClouder of the Day | daytimetv - Is It Borderline Personality Disorder Or Is He Just An Asshole?
Yash & Mike have been friends for years and always talked about making music together. A month ago they finally got around to doing it, and posted what came of their recordings under daytimetv on SoundCloud. We loved the post-rock/mathrock sounds we heard and today they are SoundClouder of the Day. Say hello and welcome these newcomers to the community. http://soundcloud.com/daytimetv
Nabeel and I have been kicking around the idea of doing a podcast. Basically the idea is to record the stuff we talk about over lunch on any given day.
So earlier today we fired up Soundcloud on the iPad and hit record with zero editing. It’s about 12 minutes long and we talk about things like the Job Act, YCombinator’s “No Idea required”, a to do list app that we’ve been playing around with called Wunderlist, and what’s next after Flickr.
Let us know what you think about our first try.
This is a great example showing how easy it is today to create a straight-forward podcast using the SoundCloud Record feature on your mobile device (in this case with our iPad app).
Thanks to Bijan and Nabeel for choosing SoundCloud to record their first podcast. It’s a great one and we can’t wait to hear more in the coming weeks.

The force and power of nature can be translated in to sound. But, this is a sound that can relax us, and calms us. The waterfall is a natural beauty, as water rushes and roars down a drop in its path, it produces an immense sensation around us. This week in Found Sounds, take a listen to the sound of waterfalls. http://bit.ly/Hapo9q

Build a national correspondent network of South African youth radio journalists who broadcast, collaborate, and share content across radio stations.
Is anyone doing something like this now and how is your project different?
This new model integrates pre-existing audio platforms (SoundCloud, VoIP Drupal, Hindenberg audio editing software) to enable community-based youth radio reporters to produce and distribute well-informed news content aimed at youth.
What part of the project have you already built?
With the support of UNICEF South Africa, CRF has already set up two youth radio project sites that broadcast weekly shows, and will have an additional ten in operation by June 2012. Working with a strong curricular framework, each project site has fifteen active youth journalists and a team of four mentors who assist the youth in radio production and newsgathering.
All aspects of the required technology are ready for implementation, and CRF is working with partners to develop youth-friendly training modules to teach basic computer skills, audio editing, web literacy, mobile engagement, and SoundCloud sharing.
The Children’s Radio Foundation are working on a project to create a network of young, connected radio journalists in South Africa, by providing education, equipment, and connectivity, which is where SoundCloud comes in. They are currently in the running for the Knight News Challenge, whose assistance will help catapult their plans.
We’re big fans of the project, and can’t wait to see it fully realised.

As the weather heats up, the sounds of the sizzle and the spit of BBQs is something we’ll be hearing more and more. As we wait in anticipation of the season to be upon us, this week in Found Sounds we listen to the sounds of BBQ. http://bit.ly/toM2xH
During SXSW last week, I caught up with David Noël, Community Evangelist at SoundCloud, to talk about the launch of the The Vibe. We discussed what happens when creative communities join forces and combine their mediums of choice (3D printing and sound). Naturally, we recorded our conversation with the SoundCloud app and uploaded it.
The Vibe lets you turn your favorite SoundCloud sound into a 3D-printed iPhone case.
Want to touch the first sound you ever created? Want to carry your child’s first words around with you every day? No matter which sound you care about most, The Vibe by Shapeways lets you keep it in your pocket *and* protect your iPhone at the same time. Pretty rad.
John Rushton is our SoundClouder of the Day today! He creates music for media using electronics, acoustic, & orchestral instruments along with manipulated field recordings, and at times, circuit bent instruments. Woot! Check out all his tracks here!
SoundCloud Voices this week takes a look at a great GPS triggered story telling app for the a little area in London called Hackney - which will play a big role this summer during the Olympics.
