What does 10,000 km across the Silk Road sound like?
Back when we launched our first Community Fellowship program in July, Kara van Malssen’s project The Silk Road in Stereo was also a part of program. The Silk Road in Stereo is an audio exploration across Europe, Central Asia and Mongolia along the ancient Silk Road as part of the 2011 Mongol Rally. Kara, an internationally-known audiovisual archivist, started her trip in July but due to continuous travel and movement, lacked consistent Internet access to share her diverse sounds with us as they were being recorded.
Now that Kara is back in Brooklyn, we’ll be featuring her adventures on the Silk Road on SoundCloud and on her blog. You’ll hear a diverse collection of sounds, from street performances to conversations with locals.
So let’s get on the road from the beginning!
