A Sucker Punch To The Stomach

thisisamemoryof:

“All it takes is one tiny thing and a whole world of the past tumbles into focus. Triggered by a smell. A touch. A song.”

We all know that feeling. This is a Memory Of is a project by musician Olga Nunes. You give her a call, she asks you a question in a voicemail recording, you leave a message and tell your story. You can hear other fascinating stories shared at http://thisisamemoryof.com

Earlier this year, we introduced our new audio series ‘SoundCloud Speaks‘, where we take an in-depth look into stories from the ‘cloud, and the users behind them. Today, we’re happy to present our fifth installment. The producer for this episode was Jayme Catsouphes.

When StoryCorps began back in 2003, it started with the basic idea that everybody has a story. And it matters. And all those great stories out there need to be told, recorded and archived. To date, StoryCorps has visited all 48 contiguous states and collected over 40,000 interviews.

In this episode of SoundCloud Speaks, the senior producer for StoryCorps, Michael Garofalo talks about the importance of listening and storytelling.

The interviews that StoryCorps collects are unlike anything else you’ll hear on the radio. They’re essentially personal, emotional conversations between family members and close friends. But they also reveal what we all have in common.

To listen to more StoryCorps interviews, check out their archive . You can also listen to their podcast on SoundCloud.

And StoryCorps wants you to get involved! On November 23rd, celebrate the National Day of Listening by recording your own interview with someone special.

SoundCloud Speaks‘ is your show, so let us know what you’d like to hear. If you have a story you’d like to tell, a question you’d like answered, or want to recommend a friend’s sounds for us to share, get in touch by either leaving a comment.

You can hear all previous episodes here.

Thanks again for listening, hope you enjoy!

StoryCorps | 10 Weeks With My Grandma

We’re thrilled to finally be welcoming StoryCorps to SoundCloud. We’ve been fans for a long time and we couldn’t be happier about this latest addition to the growing community.

Here’s a moving episode with Shelli Wright and her son, Graham Haggett, who remembers his grandmother Sandra Lee Wright, who was killed on September 11, 2001.

Radio 1 Stories is where you can find the deepest, and truest investigations and explorations of the musicians, bands, scenes, eras, records, and cultural phenomena that have made the greatest contributions to shaping the musical world that we know today“…

In recent years BBC’s Radio 1 Stories has covered the tales of Jay Z, Pendulum, John Peel, The Mighty Boosh, Metallica, Muse, The Clash, Daft Punk, and Mark Ronson amongst many others, and now you can listen to these stories directly on SoundCloud!

This is a great example of how audio outside of music can be a powerful marketing tool, to learn more about voice on SoundCloud click here.

I Miss China

” I asked my roommate ‘What is wrong?’ and he said maybe it’s because we’re different.”

I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t received the most congenial treatment. Being somebody whom himself moved away and later went back home, I know sometimes that’s just the right thing to do. Thanks for calling.
