With festival season in full swing, we’ve seen an influx of events making use of the SoundCloud Record button to capture some incredible audio, from invites to audio diaries, interviews to shout outs!

“Radio 1 Stories is where you can find the deepest, and truest investigations and explorations of the musicians, bands, scenes, eras, records, and cultural phenomena that have made the greatest contributions to shaping the musical world that we know today“…

In recent years BBC’s Radio 1 Stories has covered the tales of Jay Z, Pendulum, John Peel, The Mighty Boosh, Metallica, Muse, The Clash, Daft Punk, and Mark Ronson amongst many others, and now you can listen to these stories directly on SoundCloud!

This is a great example of how audio outside of music can be a powerful marketing tool, to learn more about voice on SoundCloud click here.

Get involved with something exciting!

SoundCloud user, Dave McKeown, is planning to compose a new piece of music, using nothing but samples of the SoundCloud community saying the words “Sound” and “Cloud”,  no instruments, no drum machines, just your voices.  

 He did something similar with water sounds a few months ago:

He’s been collecting samples via his dropbox for the last week, and will continue to do so till the end of next week, at which point, he’ll start to stitch together all the voices to produce something new, and unique to the SoundCloud community.

The quality of your recording doesn’t matter, or the format, Dave’s only request is that you enable downloads when you send him your sample.  Have a listen to Dave’s explanation above, get your REC button ready, and help Dave out!

Little Help Needed

Hey, we’re working on a cool little project that we’re not ready to announce publicly just yet but wanted to post a quick call for you to get involved if you fancy.

We’re looking for women who’d be up to read and record a text we provide you with in your language with the SoundCloud Record button (Android, iPhone or on the website). From experience, reading the text should not take more than 10-15 minutes and you’ll be featured for the public launch of the project. Below are the languages we’re looking help with:

  • Portuguese
  • Spanish
  • Japanese
  • Chinese (Mandarin: done, thanks!)
  • Korean
  • Finnish
  • Italian
  • Danish
  • Other (except for French, English, Vietnamese, Icelandic and Turkish - we’ve got these already covered).
